The Butterfly Effect is a 2004 psychological thriller film that was directed and written by Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber. It stars Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart. The title refers to the "butterfly effect," a popular hypothetical example of chaos theory which illustrates how small initial changes in the past may lead to large unforeseen consequences over time. The film won the Pegasus Audience Award at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. It was nominated for Best Science Fiction Film at the Saturn Awards and Choice Movie: Thriller in the Teen Choice Awards.

The Time Travelers[]
The character Evan Treborn (played by Ashton Kutcher, John Patrick Amedori, and Logan Lerman) travels back in time by reading an entry in a journal or watching a home movie. His father, Jason Treborn (played by Callum Keith Rennie), also has this ability and tries to talk Evan out of trying to change the past.
